June 22 was a hot and steamy day – 36 individuals met to listen to state candidates for Democratic office.

Eli Savit is running for Michigan Attorney General in 2026. Our state AG Dana Nessel is term limited. Primaries for this office are held at Democratic State Convention – currently being planned for spring 2026.


Eli Savit is currently a 2nd term Washtenaw County Prosecutor. He is a born and raised

Michigander, former public school teacher, civil rights and public interest lawyer, and law clerk to Ruth Bader Ginsburg. In prosecutorial experience he has litigated major cases against corporate polluters, scammers and slum lords – in addition to litigating civil rights and voting rights cases.

Barb Byrum is currently Ingham County Clerk, serving her 3 rd term. Acting as the

county’s chief elections official. She has successfully conducted 40 elections, dozens of

union card checks, many statewide and local recounts.


Byrum is a member of Military and Overseas Voter Initiative which is a partnership between the US Department of Defense and Counsil of State Governments – she works to address difficulties overseas that citizens have when exercising their right to vote. Byrum previously served 3 terms as a Michigan State Representative of House District 67. During this time, she served as ranking Democrat on the House Committee on Redistricting and Elections.


Byrum was raised in a family business and owned and operated a hardware store for 20 years. A graduate of MSU with a BS in Agricultural Management and a JD from MSU College of Law, she resides in Onondaga with her spouse and teenage kids.
